Group classes are an informal way to acquire basic nutrition and healthy lifestyle information to jumpstart your health journey, ask questions, and determine if a
one-on-one program would be a good fit for you.
Any good nutrition program begins with an understanding of
"The Six Foundations of Nutrition".
We will explore:
* What is a nutrient dense, whole food diet ?
*How to improve digestion
*How to balance blood sugar
*Isn't fat bad ?
*How important are minerals
*Hydration - What's all the hype ?
And we'll answer "Why ?" each foundation is crucial to overall health.
Hippocrates, known as the Father of Medicine, is credited with saying that "All Diseases begin in the Gut". Every day more and more scientific literature offers evidence that disturbances of the brain-gut interaction have implications for a wide array of health issues, such as : food sensitivities, functional GI disorders like IBS, psychiatric disorders like depression, anxiety and food addiction, to brain disorders like autism spectrum disorders, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases as well as auto-immune disorders and the list goes on.
We will explore the workings of the Mind-Gut connection and how improving digestion can begin to bring the body back into balance providing a healthier, happier you.
Women hear a lot about hormones and it is generally related to reproduction. But, did you know there are actually over 50 hormones in the Male and Female body helping to regulate everything from the activity of smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, some glands, alter metabolism, spur growth and development, participate in circadian rhythms (sleep/wake cycle), and aid homeostasis (balance of the body's internal environment), as well as influence the reproductive processes ?
We will develop an understanding of some of the main hormones, what they do, what can disrupt their activity, and how this disruption affects homeostasis. We will discuss ways we can bring our hormones back into balance with nutrition and some lifestyle changes.
So, what are stressors ? Most of us would list things like work, job loss, relationships, divorce, death of a loved one, moving, or a major illness. But there is another category of stressors that happen within our bodies which can be elicited by almost any disturbance within or without the body--heat/cold, environmental poisons, toxins from bacteria, surgery or heavy bleeding from a wound, a strong emotional reaction. When any given stressor is extreme, unusual, and/or long lasting it elicits a stress response. Short lived responses are normal and healthy, but prolonged stress responses wreak havoc in our bodies.
We will explore some major stressors like environmental toxins , blood sugar imbalance and poor sleep. We will discover ways to navigate stressors that are for the most part outside of our control and ways to support homeostasis.
